Position: SRHR/SDG Advisor
Location: Kenya

Duration: 10 Months in Kenya and 2 months in Ethiopia
The Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) Ethiopia is an Ethiopian Resident Charity with a registration number 0511. YMCA Ethiopia has a partnership agreement on the implementation of an exchange program with Y Global. To this end, YMCA invites qualified applicants for the NORIC exchange program in Kenya. The project addresses both the sexual and reproductive health and rights of young people and their social and economic wellbeing in all aspects of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and is part of NOREC’s exchange programs. The successful candidate will be part of a program with exchange participants traveling to Kenya. The following position is available:
JOB SUMMARY:
The SRHR and SDG Adviser is responsible for
- planning, organizing, directing and coordinating the overall mobilization, identification, and assessment of SRHR and outreach activities in Kenya and Ethiopia.
- Plan and executive trainings, workshops, and other activity-based sessions for staff in the host organisation, for volunteers and other groups of youth, in order to raise awareness and mobilize for advocacy change.Prepare programmatic reports and ensuring that they are of high This will include compilation of information from project intervention.
- She has knowledge of SRHR and gender equality related issues, and can adapt topics into other components in the SDGs using different working methods.
- Organise campaigns to raise awareness and visibility of the host organisation to increase the organisations’ role as stakeholder on matters of life skills based SRHR and to increase knowledge and motivation among youth on topics of various range.
- Share best practices on SRHR and other themes relevant for youth related to the
- Through day to day work relationship, provide technical advice and support to stakeholders, partners and volunteers at community level.
- Participate and lead stakeholder analysis, training need assessment, design and coordination of training
- Ensure that there is a system to share experience to the exchange
- Work with the project manager, health coordinator and other project staff
- Represent the project and establish work relationship and networking with YMCA and community partners
- Share best practices on SRHR and other themes relevant for youth that are related to the
- Mobilize and include broader groups of young people in their host organisations as ways of further empowering youth on SRHR and the SDGs.
- Support the establishment of groups on matters of SRHR and SDGs, such as youth policy expert groups, sports teams, saving and investment groups and other clubs.
- Upon return to Ethiopia, share experiences among the staff and volunteers for a period of two
- Experience in project management or Experience in training of youth is an asset.
- Other assignments shall be given by the host organization in Kenya
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- BA /BSC/ MA in Sociology, Social Work, Phycology, Gender Studies, Social Science, Health or other relevant fields of study
- Minimum of three years experience in practical or volunteer in youth SRH and Outreach program
- Has knowledge of SRHR and gender equality related issues, and can adapt topics into other components in the SDGs using different working methods
- Previous experience in Stepping stone and community conversation approaches in reproductive health issues
- Experience in organizing community mobilization and awareness creation events
- Work experience in project design, implementation and outreach activities, especially in Sexual and Reproductive Health/SRHR.
- An understanding of inclusiveness and multicultural development
- Very good communication skill in English both writing and speaking and report preparation
- Interpersonal, social skill and ability to easily adapt with new environment
Desirable
- Knowledge of the area (country) where the post is
- the participant should have worked or volunteered with his/her YMCA for at least a year (staff/volunteers/ SRHR champions /persons who have been capacitated).
- Experiences working with youth
- Proven team and personnel management experience
- Age between 24-29 only
- Flexible and ready to share room or an apartment with another exchange participant if there is a need
DURATION OF THE PROGRAM – 12 month (10 month in Kenya country and 2 month in Ethiopia)
