YMCA Ethiopia is dedicated to empowering young people as advocates for peace and social change, ensuring that the voices of youth and marginalized communities are amplified and acted upon. Our commitment is rooted in the belief that all individuals, including those from vulnerable backgrounds, deserve to be treated with dignity and have their voices heard.As part of our efforts, we have trained young pressure groups on advocacy strategies and the United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 2250, which emphasizes the critical role of youth in promoting peace and security. Over 150 trained youths from Addis Ababa, Mekele, Wolaita Sodo, Adama, and Bahir Dar have successfully organized advocacy meetings aimed at advancing policy agendas and influencing decision-making processes. This initiative equips young individuals with essential skills to engage effectively with policymakers and stakeholders.To further promote community awareness surrounding the implementation of UNSCR 2250, we have organized workshops at various branches. Although Ethiopia has signed this resolution, full implementation is still pending. During these workshops, youth advocates participated in meaningful discussions and collaborative actions aimed at pushing for the resolution’s enforcement. Their efforts align with the principles of the Just World initiative, promoting not only peace but also a greater understanding of global frameworks that support youth empowerment.In addition to advocacy training, we have established three youth hubs designed to create safe spaces for young individuals. These hubs serve as centers for collaboration, learning, and support, fostering a community-oriented environment that encourages youth engagement. Within these safe spaces, young people can share their experiences, collaborate on projects, and develop essential skills in a nurturing atmosphere.By combining advocacy training with the establishment of safe spaces, YMCA Ethiopia is effectively empowering the next generation to take an active role in shaping their communities. These initiatives enhance youth participation in peace-building efforts and contribute to a more inclusive and equitable society. We believe that by equipping young people with the tools and environments they need to succeed, we can foster a culture of peace and collaboration that benefits everyone.
